The Handmaid’s Tale season five trailer from Hulu

The Handmaid’s Tale is going to return for one last outing and its stars have given an update.
The iconic dystopian drama was renewed for a sixth series in 2022 ahead of the season five premiere with Hulu also sadly announcing it would be the show’s last.
Nevertheless, fans who have been following June Osborne’s (played by Elisabeth Moss) traumatic and triumphant fight against The Republic of Gilead, cannot wait for more.
And given how season five came to a close, there are plenty of questions left to be answered in the remaining episodes.
Very little has been revealed regarding when viewers can expect the show to resume but some of its stars gave an inclination as to where they are at.

Back in June, Naomi Putman’s Ever Carradine, Aunt Lydia’s Ann Dowd and Serena Joy’s Yvonne Strahovski sat down with screenwriter Jennel Riley as part of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversation series.
The three actresses were questioned on everything relating to The Handmaid’s Tale, from the unexpected events of season five, to how their individual characters have evolved.
Nearing the end of the interview, Riley brought up the future of The Handmaid’s Tale, asking if they had already shot season six.
And much to viewers’ disappointment, Dowd quickly and simply responded “No”.

Further elaborating on why shooting on six hadn’t begun yet, Carradine stated it was because of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
She said: “I picketed with our writers two weeks ago so no, we can’t go back to work until our writers can go back to work.”
Writers have been protesting since May over issues such as minimum staffing in writers’ room, residual payments and compensation, just to name a few.
So far, they have failed to reach an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
The strikes have not only impacted The Handmaid’s Tale but shows and films across Hollywood.
Stranger Things season five, NCIS, Law and Order, The Last of Us, Euphoria and Outlander are all experiencing delays as a result.
So until the strikes come to an end, it is unclear exactly when work on The Handmaid’s Tale season six can begin.
The Handmaid’s Tale is available to watch on Hulu in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
