BRITS have been warned about lesser-known passport rules that could prevent them from going on holiday this summer.
With UK passports lasting 10 years from the date of issue, it’s easy to believe you can travel up until the expiry date, but this isn’t always the case.
Experts at Airport Parking and Hotels are urging people to read up on the latest passport expiry date regulations, and check their passport is okay before they set off.
All passports must have been issued within the last 10 years to travel overseas, meaning passengers should always look at the date of issue as well as the expiry date.
That's not to say that the expiry date isn't important either, with some holidaymakers getting caught out by thinking they had enough time left on their passports.
For most countries in the EU and Schengen area, you must have at-least three months of date left on your passport before you travel.

For countries such as Thailand, Turkey and Egypt you’ll need six months at the very least.
For those travelling to Australia, Canada and the USA, as long as you have enough time left until the end of your stay, you’re usually good to go.
Anyone who needs a new passport has been warned to allow almost three months for the process to be completed.
Once your application is complete and the passport office has received your expired passport, your new documents should be delivered to you within 10 weeks.

You should allow as much time as possible though, as during high-demand periods, applications could take longer to process than usual.
Prices for adult standard passports are £82.50 or £93 if done by a paper application.
If you’re an adult who has requested a 50-page ‘frequent traveller’ passport, this will cost £93.50 or £104 if you put in a paper application.
For children (under 16’s) a standard passport is priced at £53.50 or £64 for a paper application.
For a child’s 50-page frequent traveller passport that will be £64.50 or £75 paper application.
The passport office also offers a one week fast tracked service where new passports should be delivered within seven working days.
However, fast track services require an in-person appointment at a passport office with a completed paper application and two photographs.
The costs for this service are £155 for an adult passport and £126 for a child’s passport.
It may be possible to receive a passport via an in-person appointment on the same day, if you’re willing to pay the premium and they have slots available.
You can book an appointment up to three weeks in advance and no sooner than two days in advance.
Costs for this speedy service are £193.50 for a standard adult passport, or £204.50 for a 50-page ‘frequent traveller’ passport.
