When it comes to carrying on the family legacy, James Wilkie Broderick is ready. The 20-year-old son of Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker recently opened up about following in his parents’ acting footsteps after college (Inspector Gadget reboot, anyone?).
He detailed his future plans in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 81st Father of the Year Awards gala yesterday.

James ‘Really Liked’ Acting
If you are hoping to see James in something, you just might get to!
“Recently, I’ve tried it out a little bit,” James told ET about acting. “I tried it out and really liked it, so that’ll be great.” That’s awesome! We’re sure it comes natural to him with two famous actor parents!
But at the same time, he’s not putting all his eggs in one Hollywood-sized basket.
“But I have a lot of things that could work out, so I’m not, like, super worried about it,” he added. “I’m still in college… right now I have time to try things out, but when I get back to school, I won’t have a lot of time to, like, do other stuff, ’cause it’s hard.” Smart move!

Matthew Broderick Gave His Son Acting Advice
Broderick, who also shares 13-year-old twins Tabitha Hodge and Loretta Elwell Broderick with Parker, gave his son some advice. And…it’s not what you’d expect.
“Just keep at it as long as you really love it, you know? If you don’t like it, don’t go crazy sticking to it,” he told ET. The advice makes sense — don’t force it if you aren’t a fan.
“I always feel funny telling people, ‘Stick with it no matter what sometimes,’ but people who do stick with it tend to really love it, so I guess that takes care of itself,” he added.
At the event, Broderick was honored with the Father of the Year award. “It just happens, you know? You don’t really know how to do it, and then suddenly you’re a dad. But I’m very happy that that happened,” he told ET.
James, who presented his dad with the award, added, “I didn’t really choose for him to be my dad either, in the same fashion. But I’m extremely happy.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Son James Is Her Mini-Me
In October, the And Just Like That star shared throwback photos of her son, and he was her mini-me!
“Oct 28th, 2022,” SJP wrote in the caption. “‘It was 20 years ago today…’ The plates shifted. All the feelings I had ever known, deeper, magnified and in brilliant new colors.”
She added, “Today the kaleidoscope spins with all the memories. In all the glorious shapes, changes and perspectives you have brought to our lives. Happy birthday my son. I love you so. Xxx, Mama.”
This tight-knit family seems to genuinely enjoy each other. We know if James does end up going into acting, his famous parents will be right there to help keep him grounded.
