Surprise! Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank secretly welcomed their secondborn last week and are just now announcing his arrival with the world.
“Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on 30th May 2023 at 8.49 weighing 7.1lbs,” Princess Eugenie — the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson — captioned her post on Instagram. “…Augie is loving being a big brother already. 💙❤️💙❤️”
She shared a carousel of two precious photos. The first is a closeup of an angelic Ernest sleeping in a blue and white knit cap on polka dot linens while covered in a white blanket (Psst: Just a quick little reminder that the American Academy of Pediatrics’ safe sleep guidelines say there shouldn’t be anything in the crib with a baby, including a blanket). In the second, Eugenie and Jack’s son August “Augie” Philip Hawke Brooksbank — who turned 2 in February — stands over the newborn’s crib and lovingly cradles his head.
“He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald,” Princess Eugenie wrote, referencing King George V, her mother’s father Major Ronald Ferguson, and her husband’s late father George who past in 2021.
Ernest is the first grandchild to be born after the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II and after the coronation of King Charles III. He is 13th in line to the throne.

Best Big Brother
Since announcing her pregnancy in January, Princess Eugenie and the royal family have talked about how great of a big brother Augie will be, and we don’t doubt it for a second.
“Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are pleased to announce they are expecting their second child this summer,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time. “The family are delighted, and August is very much looking forward to being a big brother.”
We’ve seen adorable photos of Augie kissing his mom’s baby bump, and we’re already seeing him being so gentle with Ernest. Now we can’t wait for the day we get to see him teach his little brother some of his prime dance moves.

Surprise Announcements
Princess Eugenie is far from the first public figure to keep the birth of their baby under wraps for a bit. In fact, we see it all the time.
In Feb. 2023, media personality Paris Hilton revealed that she went undercover to the hospital to meet her son who was born via surrogate. She and her husband Carter Reum then spent a blissful 48 hours alone with their newborn. They and their surrogate were the only ones who knew of his arrival.
