Mysterious ‘half-man, half-dog’ creature terrified fisherman as it stalked river

A fisherman was left terrified after spotting a mysterious 'half-man, half-dog' beast on the riverbank – but new analysis by an expert suggests it could be a giant monkey.

Unlike most alleged encounters with elusive cryptoids such as Bigfoot, the animal was caught on camera skulking through long grass on the other side of the river.

The fishermen filming the creature have not been identified but it is understood their footage was recorded in San Benito, Texas in the US.

As the pair gently cruise up the waterway, a figure can be seen appearing to drink from the river on four legs only to shock them further by appearing bipedal.

“What the f***, is that a dog or what?” the cameraman asks.

It then seems to spot the people watching it and lifts itself up on its hind legs.

Stunned, the man filming exclaims: “Holy s***, I got that on video.”

His friend can be heard asking in the background: “What the f*** was that dude?”

The figure quickly disappears behind the grass verge as those watching continue to voice their amazement.

Dozens of viewers flocked to the comments section to voice their thoughts, with some suggesting it was a "dogman" – a mythical creature described as being half-human, half-dog.

But a Bigfoot researcher now claims it could be a different creature altogether.

Beasts of the World author Andy McGrath has tried to get to the bottom of frightening stories passed down through generations describing a 5ft8 bipedal monster.

Commenting on the video captured in Texas, Andy told the Daily Star: "This footage, although compelling, is pretty hard to judge. The distance at which the creature stands away from the witnesses makes a positive identification of hoax or hungry Wolfman impossible.

"However, I would add that the reaction of the witnesses seems natural enough, although again, I would juxtapose that with their apparent lack of fear – which in itself could be explained away by their feeling safe, due to the wide river that effectively puts them out of reach of the animal.

Andy continued: "Could we be dealing with some unknown species of unidentified giant monkey? Loren Coleman and Patrick Huyghe write in, ‘The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates’, of a Giant Monkey, that may inhabit the temperate regions of Asia and the Americas.

"Known as Kra-Dhan and Bekk Bok in Asia and as Salvaje and Isnashi in South America. The Giant Monkey is described as being 4-6 ft. tall, with a doglike or baboon-like face and pointed ears.

"It has dark piercing eyes and shaggy black or red hair. It is also reputed to be aggressive towards humans and dogs, which draws a parallel with several ‘werewolf’ reports in western nations. Surely, if a relict population of these animals had survived in small numbers in Europe and North America, then they would be convincing contenders for the fearsome werewolf?"
