Emotions running high: An obviously flattered Drew Barrymore shared why she hadn’t directly responded to Britney Spears’ complimentary Instagram post from two days earlier
Spears began this shining example of sisterhood between women by writing, ‘I will tell you guys a little secret … I’ve met 1000s of celebrities in the business … but I have to say the 2 people where I literally went speechless were @katehudson and @drewbarrymore.’
She continued, ‘They are by far the 2 most beautiful people I have ever seen in my life !!! Like shocking !!!’ alongside two images of the actresses.
It’s at this point that the Toxic star revealed her meetings with the two stars, and that she ‘had to open my stupid mouth with Kate so I ran away immediately, and with Drew … I went mute !!!’
This all started on Wednesday when the pop princess offered her 40.3 million Instagram fans and followers ‘a little secret’ about the ‘two most beautiful’ celebrities, out of the thousands she has met over the years’, that left her ‘speechless’: ‘Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson’
Honest share: The pop superstar, 40, proceeded to explain her shy girl reactions to meeting Hudson and Barrymore in previous years, as well as why she thinks ‘sisterhood is profound’, especially in the times of social media, computers and cell phones
Spears went on share that she was inspired to share her affection for Hudson and Barrymore because she has been finding it ‘weird that in social media the expectations to be perfect is pretty crazy !!!’
She went on to confess she believes ‘sisterhood is actually profound’, and that ‘we do care what others think.’ But just when you start to take yourself seriously she will ‘give up before I even begin because I care too much !!! It’s too hard.’
In a sneak peek of an upcoming episode of The Drew Barrymore Show with co-host Ross Matthews, Barrymore revealed why she hasn’t officially reacted to it yet after two days. But first, she tells the story of how she found out about Britney’s lovely and complimentary words about her and Hudson.
‘Everyone at the show, because I was down here filming, came running up to me and was like “did you see,” and I just said “I’ll see it when I get upstairs.” I wanna be like thoughtful. I wanna read every word that she says,’ the daytime talk show host shared. ‘I really want to respond thoughtfully, I really want to choose my words the right way.’
Taking the lead: The Drew Barrymore Show co-host Ross Matthews addressed Britney’s Instagram post during a segment that was posted on Friday, two days after original post
Humbled: The actress and talk show host admits to being hesitant in sharing her direct message to Brit’s post because ‘I gotta choose my words carefully because it is such a moment for me’
In addition to the sweet post, Barrymore admitted that she’s looking forward to Spears ‘writing her book because I just think it is such a smart and intelligent way to tell her story; it’ll get us all reading and off our screens, so thank you Britney for that. And she will control that narrative, and she will tell us in her own words, and it’s just a brilliant way for us to be invited into her world.’
Barrymore then directed her thoughts back to her reaction to Brit’s post: ‘I just gotta choose my words carefully because it is such a moment for me. I have so much, so many feelings towards her, so much profoundness, so how do you encapsulate that in a post,’ The Wedding Singer star explained.
‘She managed to do it, now I gotta figure it out, but really when you put your words out there Britney Spears we’re all listening, so I’m really excited for your book.’
In conclusion, Barrymore confessed to there being some sort of connection between her and Brit.
‘We have some unique journeys in common, and I don’t posture to know her or understand her or say I like her, or that our journeys align, but there is just a tremendous amount of understanding and empathy that I have for her,’ the ET actress explained, before adding, ‘It’s hard for me to put into words the way I feel for her but it is beautiful.’
Kate’s take: Kate Hudson, 42, didn’t take as much time to directly respond to Spears’ compliments in her Instagram post
Kate’s take: In her comments, the Oscar-nominated actress called Spears a ‘lovely woman’, and then referenced a comment by Brit wanting to be able to ‘smile at strangers’ like years past, and that she was ‘beyond flattered’ by her compliment
Hudson didn’t take as much time to directly respond to Spears’ compliments in her Instagram post.
She would first reference the pop superstar’s statement about how we as people ‘seem to alienate behind our phones and computers’, and that she misses ‘just walking up to someone on the street and saying hi and giving a smile’ without somebody thinking she was ‘rude’ or looking at me like I was on crack.’
Hudson commented: ‘So much to unpack here lovely woman! But I have three important things to say…I think! 1) DON’T EVER STOP SMILING AT STANGERS! You can and have changed lives with that smile! 2) Perfection in BORING 3) I’m beyond flattered by this compliment.’
For an added sweet touch, the Oscar-nominated actress dropped in three red heart emojis.
As a result of Barrymore’s hesitation to find the ‘right words’ to Brit’s compliments, fans and followers can likely expect a more thought out statement from her in the near future.
