Simon Cowell has vowed that changes will be made to the Britain’s Got Talent format, after the 2021 show was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The music mogul recently hit headlines when he announced he would step back from TV and let Take That star Gary Barlow take his place for his new ITV show Walk The Line.

The 62-year old wants to spend more time with his family after a horror accident which left him fearing he would be paralysed for life.

And now Simon has teased that there will be further changes to his other iconic ITV show, Britain’s Got Talent.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online at the Together For Short Lives charity event, Simon was asked if anything would be changed up in the BGT format.

"Yeah, a little bit," he responded.

The star elaborated: "We’ve had some good ideas. I mean, we just had some good ideas because we had to pull the show at the very, very last moment.

"And because we were going to shoot this in January this year – and that was before the second variant came along.

"So we had to make a last-minute decision. We just had to cancel it," he explained.

Simon then admitted: "And I wasn’t very popular at the time."

Asked if he would ever work with former BGT judge Piers Morgan again after his epic strop which saw him storm off-set of Good Morning Britain, Simon simply rolled his eyes and said: "I’m not even going there!"

But what the changes could be remain to be seen, as Simon prepares to spend more time with his family after making the decision not to star in Walk The Line.

He explained at the time: "This is a situation where I have decided it is right for me to focus on my role as the Creator and Producer as we build up to the hugely exciting launch.

"Gary’s musical pedigree is second to none – and we have known each other a long time now – so I am delighted he is picking up the baton for me for the first series of Walk The Line. I know he will do a fantastic job."

Gary has, of course, worked with Simon before when he appeared as a judge on axed show The X Factor.

Simon has also taken a step back from his duties across the pond, too, and was replaced on America’s Got Talent last year after his horror accident.
