Coronation Street continues to air on ITV and the much-loved soap has been in the spotlight lately for its tragic storylines. The disasters have caused plenty of rifts between characters, but the show is also known for its off-screen tiffs. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about which actors have had fights behind the camera.
John Thompson and Antony Cotton
There has been plenty of conflict in Weatherfield over the years and recent episodes have highlighted the relentless villains.
While there are lots of antagonists for fans to dislike in the series, there has been a lot of conflict away from The Street.
John Thomson, who played Jesse Chadwick between 2008 and 2010, has opened up about his feelings towards Sean Tully star Antony Cotton.
When Cotton appeared on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! back in 2011, he posted a warning on Twitter.
He said: “Antony Cotton – the truth will out. You nasty piece of work, you are doing yourself no favours.”
Cotton never responded to the Tweet and it is uncertain why John took to Twitter to write the message.
Fellow Corrie actors rushed to Cotton’s defence.
Kym Marsh wrote in New! Magazine how she was “surprised” John had resorted to the Twitter rant.
She said: “Not only is it unprofessional, it’s also untrue – Antony hasn’t got a nasty bone in his body!”
Jane Danson and Vicky Entwistle
Jane Danson played Leanne Battersby in the ITV soap between 1997 and 2000, returning to the show in 2004.
Vicky Entwistle played her on-screen stepmum Janice until 2011, after 14 years in the role.
Vicky was not happy with the way the soap had been written after Leanne lost her terminally ill son, Oliver (Emmanuel & Jeremiah Cheetham).
While Jane won a lot of support from fans following the emotional scenes, Vicky took to Twitter to share her thoughts.
She said: “But imagine if she had better writers behind her!!! That really would have been something.”
Jane then responded to the Tweet, saying: “That’s so disrespectful. They were some of the best scripts I have ever had.
“Shame on you for writing that! Very disappointed how mean that comment was!”
Vicky went on to delete the Tweet and publicly apologised to Jane, calling her a wonderful actress.
She admitted the post had been “childish and hurtful” and she was “truly sorry” for causing hurt.
The two actresses seemed to make amends as Jane discussed the incident in a later interview.
Speaking to The Sun, she said: “I think the problem with Twitter is people say things in the moment and often they sound a little bit harsher than what they were or people take it differently.
“On that occasion, yeah, I thought it was mean. But she did apologise so I suppose you have to draw the line.”
Coronation Street star Charlie Condou has also recently sparked rumours he had fallen out with one of his co-stars.
The actor left his role of Marcus Dent in 2014 and took to Twitter to discuss the nicest and nastiest celebs he had ever met.
He said: “Nastiest – someone I had to work with closely for a long time….” but did not specify who, which has left the rumour mill turning.
Coronation Street airs on Monday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, Wednesday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
