‘On the road is where I have been for the last 45 years, because the life of a musician is made up of roads, travel, waiting in hotels, hours back stage”, explained the Canadian artist who shot the calendar in two days of intense work in Los Angeles in June, where the majority of the cast members gathered, followed by a day in Capri at the end of July.
Cher, Grimes, Jennifer Hudson, Normani, Rita Ora, Bohan Phoenix, Iggy Pop, St. Vincent and Kali Uchis were photographed in Los Angeles – in the streets of the city, the Palace Theatre and the Chateau Marmont hotel, while in Capri the photos of Saweetie were taken at the Hotel La Scalinatella.
The calendar was first released in 1964 and caused a stir when it featured full nudity for the first time nine years later.

After 10 years out of print due to financial constraints, Pirelli returned with a bang in 1984 – sultrier and sexier than every before.
The Italian tyre company first signaled it was changing direction with its 2017 calendars, announcing it was ‘ripping up the rule book’ and giving the hotly-anticipated calendar a new feminist overhaul.
The spread featured Robin Wright, Julianne Moore, Charlotte Rampling, and Helen Mirren (then aged 50, 55, 70 and 71 respectively) and was hailed a triumph for its representation of older women.
A former life: The Pirelli calendar was once synonymous with scantily-clad women, sizzling photo shoots and topless models (pictured model Catherine McNeil in a bikini for the 2010 calendar, shot by Terry Richardson)
