Many of the most powerful Android phones on the market are currently driven by Qualcomm’s blistering quick Snapdragon 888 processor. This speedy brain was announced late last year with devices that use it offering some serious gains over older Android smartphones. Along being far quicker than anything Qualcomm has released in the past, the 888 is also more efficient meaning longer battery life.

Those stats may get you thinking that it’s time to make the switch to something new, but you might be wise to wait. During a virtual reveal at this year’s Mobile World Congress show, Qualcomm has just announced the release of its next big upgrade called the Snapdragon 888 Plus. This latest chip will arrive in devices in the coming months with users seeing a further 20 percent improvement in performance.

Qualcomm is boasting that devices powered by the 888 Plus will see enhanced AI capabilities along with improved photography and better connectivity. Gaming is also boosted to a new level with users seeing ultra-smooth responsiveness, colour-rich HDR graphics, and mobile-first desktop-level performance.

Of course, the 888 Plus is also fully compatible with the latest 5G data speeds allowing users to download movies on the move at speeds of over 300Mbps.
