Trump says Cindy McCain ‘can have Sleepy Joe’ after her endorsement

President Trump said Cindy McCain, the widow of GOP Sen. John McCain, “can have Sleepy Joe,” following her endorsement of Joe Biden for president.

“I hardly know Cindy McCain other than having put her on a Committee at her husband’s request,” Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday.

“Joe Biden was John McCain’s lapdog. So many BAD decisions on Endless Wars & the V.A., which I brought from a horror show to HIGH APPROVAL. Never a fan of John. Cindy can have Sleepy Joe!,” he continued.

Cindy McCain announced Tuesday that she would back Biden for president, saying she believes he is the only candidate who will “stand up” for American values.

“My husband John lived by a code: country first. We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost. There’s only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is @JoeBiden,” she wrote on Twitter.

Cindy McCain spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August and recalled the relationship between Biden and her late husband, who, as the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, lost to the Obama/Biden Democratic ticket.

“It was a style of legislating and leadership that you don’t find much anymore,” she said.

Trump has often attacked the long-time GOP senator from Arizona and in 2015 said he didn’t consider McCain a war-hero because he had been captured.

McCain spent more than five years in the notorious prison camp the “Hanoi Hilton” after his bomber was shot down over Vietnam in 1967.

He died in August 2018.
