Gavin & Stacey stars to reunite on screen next month after radio silence on second Christmas special

GAVIN & Stacey stars Joanna Page and Melanie Walters will be back on our screens next month after complete radio silence on the second Christmas special.

The actors will be competing in celebrity editions of Rylan Clark-Neal and Jennie McAlpine's Supermarket Sweep from 1st September.

Racing down the aisles to grab as many inflatable items and from frozen, they’ll also be joined by a host of other famous duos, including Frankie and Wayne Bridge, and Joe Swash and Radzi Chinyanganya.

There will also be The Masked Singer UK's Joel Dommett and Denise Van Outen, JLS's JB Gill and Aston Merrygold, and Martine McCutcheon and husband Jack McManus.

If that’s not enough celebrity twosomes for you, there’ll also be I’m A Celeb… winners Scarlett Moffatt and Jacqueline Jossa, who are joining forces for a special edition of the show.

Scarlett and Jac are set to take on the likes of their jungle co-star Roman Kemp and his EastEnders star dad Martin in a new series.

The show will be heading to ITV this autumn with Ryan Clark-Neal returning as host and Corrie actress Jennie McAlpine continuing as the voice behind the tannoy.

The series will consist of six celebrity specials, allowing a catalogue of famous faces the chance to run rampant through the shopping aisles.

Rylan filled the giant shoes of late telly great Dale Winton when the cult show returned to critical acclaim last year.

The success of the show saw bosses agree to move it from ITV2 to the main ITV channel.

On returning to the show, Jennie said: "Getting to help out in Rylan’s supermarket last year was a dream. I had so much fun.

"It’s an absolute joy to be heading back for more dashing round the aisles and pick and mix!"

A source said: “ITV were delighted with Rylan and the show on ITV2, so it’s going back to where it belongs on the main channel.

“It rated well and it is just what they want to lift the nation’s spirits in these odd times.

“They hope the nostalgia trip, with Rylan at the helm again, will put a smile on the country’s face.”

Hopefully this brief West family reunion will be enough to satiate Gavin & Stacey fans’ appetites.

Series star Larry Lamb recently told OK! Magazine that he's "more or less" certain that the show will be back to answer the Christmas cliffhanger at some point.

He said: “After the response it got at Christmas you can more or less be certain that, sooner or later, there will be more.

“I'm sure the BBC can persuade Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden] to write more, so it's a question of when not if.”
