Sky TV customers who switch on their box this morning will find a bonus movie channel available from today. And it couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Known as Sky Cinema Animation, the channel is available at no extra cost for Sky Cinema subscribers.
Sky says the new channel will be home to many of the biggest animated blockbusters of recent years with movies like Angry Birds 2, The Secret Life of Pets 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 3 all available at launch. Other films in the line-up for the new channel are Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, Lego Movie 2 and Astro Kid.
If you don’t already have Sky Cinema, it’s available to add to any existing Sky TV bundle for £11 a month for the next 18-months. After that, the add-on, which includes all Sky Cinema channels and 1000s of movies available to watch whenever on-demand, will revert to £19 a month.
Along with Sky Cinema Animation being available via its satellite service, there’s more good news as this upgrade is also arriving for anyone who accesses Sky Cinema through NOW TV. If you were unaware, NOW TV beams all content to your television via the web and has one big advantage over Sky as you don’t need to sign up to a long term contract to tune in.
Sky Cinema passes on NOW TV cost from £9.99 per month and all you’ll need is a smart TV or streaming device to watch endless movies on demand.

- Sky TV offers select customers a FREE upgrade for their Sky Q box
The news of this extra channel comes as Sky recently announced a major update to its Sky Q service.
Perhaps the most exciting change is an expanded view on the homepage which will show more of the content Sky thinks you love.
This means more TV, film, online video, podcast, music and games recommendations on your home screen, and less time searching for what you want. Sky also says that each programme now has a show centre, a go-to destination for every single available episode.
All seasons, episodes, recordings, broadcast schedules and on-demand links are now placed together in one area for the first time. This should make it far easier to binge on content and will end the nightmare of searching through endless menus to find more episodes of your favourite shows.
Along with the redesign, there’s now better voice search which should help you find content more quickly via speech.
Finally, following the launch of High Dynamic Range (HDR) on Sky Q earlier this year, Disney+ is now available in this stunning format straight from the Sky Q box.
Speaking about the changes to the Q box, Fraser Stirling, Group Chief Product Officer, Sky, said: “We’ve redesigned Sky Q to make it even smarter, simpler and better at aggregating all of the TV and app content you love into one place. A new-look UI, improved voice search and more intuitive navigation make everything easier to find without having to search around, so you can get to the next episode of Succession, a brilliant football podcast, or choose from the most popular British dramas easily.
“And we’re not stopping there, the tech team behind Sky Q and Sky Go are working hard on loads of new updates that we’ll be rolling out every few months, so you can expect your Sky TV experience to keep getting better.”
The changes will start to roll out to customers from today (July 8); all customers will have the new look Sky Q by 12 August
