Netflix series Dark came to a stunning close after the third and final outing dropped on the streamer recently. The time travelling series answered many questions as the last cycle played out. Fans also learnt how the families of Winden – the Nielsens, Dopplers, Tiedemanns and Kahnwalds were interconnected.

Season three also saw the introduction of new characters as well as never-before-seen versions of the same characters.

Viewers glimpsed future Jonas Kahnwald’s (played by Andreas Pietschmann) descent into infamy as he become the villainous Adam (Dietrich Hollinderbäumer).

One big new character was the son of Jonas Kahnwald (Louis Hofmann) and Martha Nielsen (Lisa Vicari), who didn’t have a name but was described as the Unknown (Jakob Diehl).

Along with the Unknown, viewers encountered Eva (Barbara Nüsse), Martha’s older version who was battling against Adam to maintain the knot and preserve the life of her son.

Who is Hanno in Dark?

However, many fans have been left perplexed about a character called Hanno, who was born in season three.

Hanno was the son of Bartosz Tiedemann (Paul Lux) and Silja Tiedemann (Lea van Acken).

Silja travelled from 2053 to 1890 where she fell in love with Bartosz, who was trapped in the past after he and his friends escaped from the apocalypse in 2019.

The couple had two children son Hanno and daughter Agnes but sadly Silja died in childbirth after going into labour with her second child.

As viewers may remember, Hanno Tauber was the name of homicidal priest Noah (Mark Waschke).

A newspaper clipping was seen with a photo of Noah and the headline underneath mentioning Hanno Tauber coming to Winden as the new vicar.

In season one, Noah abducted and murdered the boys in Winden as he tried to build a time travelling machine.

Also, in season two fans saw Noah speaking to his sister Agnes Nielsen (Antje Traue) – who had a lesbian affair with Doris Tiedemann (Luise Heyer).

Agnes later shot Noah dead after she decided to betray him and sided with Adam, essentially murdering her own brother.

Another plot point worth noting is this: young Noah (Max Schimmelpfennig) killed his own father and an older Bartosz (Roman Knizka) in the 1920s.

The shocking moment happened at the start of season two when the two men were digging a passageway through the Winden caves when Bartosz started to question Adam’s vision.

At the time, viewers questioned who Noah had brutally butchered with a pickaxe with some suspecting Bartosz. But season three confirmed Bartosz was Hanno’s father.

Hanno was re-named Noah by Adam but his reasons for doing so remained a mystery.

Going by the biblical theme, Noah later likened his crude time machine to an ark as he sought to save humanity.

He believed Adam was on the side of good and followed him blindly without realising they were all locked in an infinite cycle.

Unfortunately, he was left disillusioned and tried to take revenge on Adam after learning his daughter was Charlotte Doppler (Karoline Eichhorn) – the mother of his wife Elisabeth (Sandra Borgmann).

Ultimately, Noah/Hanno was simply a pawn in the cycle and died hoping he could change the future.
