Elon Musk & Grimes' Baby's Middle Name Is So Confusing

If you’ve been following along on Elon Musk and Grimes’ winding baby naming journey, then you’ll know that the name they originally chose for their infant didn’t stick around. X Æ A-12 is what they first named their baby, but it turned out that the, um, unusual moniker didn’t quite comply with California law. So, in their quest to find a legal baby name, they settled on X for the birth certificate— even though they call him X Æ A-12 in real life or “Little X” for short.

To make matters even more confusing, we just discovered their son’s interesting middle name is AE A-XII, according to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ.

The singer and CEO of SpaceX clearly wanted to go with a futuristic name and found a way to allow their initial idea to work. Basically, all they did was separate the X from the rest of his name because the law prohibits anything but the 26 letters of the English alphabet from being entered on a child’s birth certificate form. His middle name, however, doesn’t have the same requirements, which is why they were able to keep AE A-XII. We may not be able to pronounce his middle name, but at least his first name, X,  and last name, Musk, is something that rolls off our tongue easy peasy.

“It’s just X, like the letter X,” Grimes tweeted when people first asked her how to pronounce the name name. “Then A.I. Like how you said the letter A then I.”

Still, why add the dash and the Latin Æ? This would’ve made things super complicated for teachers calling attendance every day. Anyway, for now we’ll stick with calling Musk and Grimes’ baby “Little X” — until we know how to pronounce his full name. And, you know, unless X’s parents change their mind. Again.

Here are more unique and wacky celebrity baby names we wish we thought of first.
