A little over a year after being cast as the iconic teen sleuth, actress Kennedy McMann admits she still feels a lot of pressure playing Nancy Drew.
“It comes in waves,” she said during a pre-recorded ATX TV…from the Couch panel on Friday. “I think I had a moment maybe a week and a half ago, where I was like, ‘Oh, I am Nancy Drew,’ and it was like, ‘Huh, whoa,’ and in a wave, came back.”
McMann, 23, continued, “I have been so incredibly supported by everybody on our team and I think it’s been about how can we commit so fully to the Nancy that’s on our pages and the Nancy that we are creating that is coming from a bunch of people that have loved Nancy from her initial origin, including myself … When you read the books and immerse yourself in that character, you kind of, as a woman, you put her within yourself and how she translates through your own experience.”
Her on-screen dad, Scott Wolf, also praised the young actress’ professionalism.
“I can’t say enough about Kennedy as a human being, as an actor, as a leader,” Wolf, who plays Carson Drew, said. “She led the way through the entire production and I couldn’t be more proud of her and I couldn’t be more excited about the chance I’ve had to work with her and keep on going.”
Kennedy added, tearing up, that Wolf, 52, has been a “rock” for her throughout the show’s first season.
“Nancy Drew,” which was renewed for Season 2 earlier this year, airs on The CW.
