Look Out Kelly and Tamron! This Hollywood Star is Getting Her Own Talk Show This Fall

Last fall, the talk show circuit was revitalized by thepremieres of two brand new programs. The KellyClarkson Show and TamronHall both premiered on September 9, breathing new life into daytimeprogramming.

It looks like the ladies will have some competition later this year since this Hollywood heavy hitter just got officially green-lighted for her own show in fall 2020.

Talk shows with a different take

When Clarkson and Hall launched their shows last September, many were quick to make comparisons between the two programs. While both shows aim to place an emphasis on community and connection, Hall’s platform remains the more traditional of the two (think Oprah-style format), where Clarkson’s goes more Hollywood.

While there have been rumors of a rivalry, Hall stated from the start that she was not going to give that kind of nonsense any credence. “There’s not a head to head. Anyone who would write, ‘oh there’s a battle’ is simply looking for a headline,” she said, according to Good Housekeeping. “Kelly Clarkson will have a phenomenal show and I’m not just saying that, I’m saying that because I’m a fan of hers on American Idol, and she’s a fun-loving person. Her show is going to be different from mine, but we’re still talking.”

Drew’s turn

Shortly after Clarkson and Hall’s shows premiered, talks began between CBS and actress Drew Barrymore to headline her own daytime program. “It is beyond my wildest dreams to have this opportunity for a daily talk show,” Barrymore said in a press release, according to Good Housekeeping in a press release. “I’m truly thrilled and honored to be creating this show with CBS.”

CBS Television Stations President Peter Dunn expressed great enthusiasm for the upcoming project. “We are very excited to be in business with Drew Barrymore and have our stations serve as the launch group for a show that is the brightest prospect I have seen in many years,” he said.

Since CBS Television Distribution (CTD), has cleared 85% of the U.S. for The Drew Barrymore Show, viewersfrom a majority of the country will be able to tune in.

“The response from the station community has been overwhelming,” Jonathan Bingaman, Executive VP of Sales for CTD told Deadline. “Stations have really stepped up to support The Drew Barrymore Show, and we can’t wait to bring the show to life this fall.”
