Coronation Street: Fans plead for serial killer Gary Windass to KILL Yasmeen’s controlling husband Geoff as he sinks to a new low
It’s a storyline that’s already left fans enraged with its depiction of coercive control.
And Coronation Street fans have been begging for serial killer Gary Windass to kill off Yasmeen Nazir’s emotionally abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe, after he sunk to a new low on Wednesday night by claiming she was an alcoholic.
Fans took to Twitter in droves to share their reaction to the dark scenes as they asked Gary to return to his killer ways as Geoff continued to control and abuse his wife by confiscating her credit cards.

In the double bill, Geoff (played by Ian Bartholomew) continued to emotionally torment and abuse Yasmeen (Shelley King) by setting up a cleaning rota for her, leaving her exhausted and confused by his demands.
When her friend Cathy (Melanie Hill) popped round to try and help, Geoff curtly asked his wife if she was a lesbian and had eyes for another woman.
Growing concerned about Yasmeen’s constant cleaning, Cathy confided in boyfriend Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) that she feared something was wrong, and confronted Geoff in the Rovers.

Covering his tracks, Geoff then claimed that he was actually trying to protect Yasmeen as she had become an alcoholic, and claimed she had abused him by punching him in the eye.
Satisfied he had managed to avoid any suspicion, Geoff then returned home and said he was worried about her drinking, and asked to look after her credit cards so she wouldn’t be tempted to buy drink.
The scenes sparked outrage from many fans on social media, who rushed to Twitter to beg for Yasmeen’s ordeal to end.

Several were quick to suggest that villainous Gary (Mikey North) could return to his murderous ways and kill Geoff, bringing an end to his emotionally abusive ways.
One posted: ‘Can Gary killed him of’ [sic] while another posted: ‘Can Gary kill Geoff next?’
‘If Gary Windass could kill Geoff next that would be fantastic,’ a third fan also tweeted.
Upsetting: Yasmeen complied with Geoff’s request that he take command of her finances, but viewers pleaded for her ordeal to end
Angry: Many fans rushed to Twitter to claim that Gary should return to his killing ways and murder Geoff
Irate: Others simple took to social media to share their outrage following the scenes
Others were quick to share their outrage regarding the dark storyline, with one tweeting: ‘Way too much Geoff, unlikable character getting to much storyline that’s dragging out.’ [sic]
Another added: ‘Poor Yasmine she doesn’t deserve this. Sorry, can’t stand Geoff!’
Others praised Coronation Street bosses for highlighting the issue of coercive control through the storyline.
One tweeted: ‘Can this na get any more vile! #geoff #Corrie such an important story line. Controlling, coercive behaviour is totally unacceptable! Not just in personal relationships! Working relationships also! #stampitout.’
Important: Others were quick to praise the soap for highlighting the sensitive issue of coercive control, which is now recognised as a criminal offence
What is coercive control?
Coercive control is a type of domestic abuse that had no name until four years ago, when the Serious Crimes Act 2015 made it a criminal offence.
Women’s Aid describes the signs as:
- Isolating you from friends and family
- Depriving you of basic needs, such as food
- Monitoring your time
- Monitoring you via online communication tools or spyware
- Taking control over aspects of your everyday life, such as where you can go, who you can see, what you can wear and when you can sleep
- Depriving you access to support services, such as medical services
- Repeatedly putting you down, such as saying you’re worthless
- Humiliating, degrading or dehumanising you
- Controlling your finances
- Making threats or intimidating you

A second wrote: ‘Corrie – strong storyline about Yasmeen – showing how gaslighting works & how it destroys a person’s confident, self esteem and self belief. Difficult to watch.’

One viewer also posted: ‘Geoff has just got even more nastier, well done @itvcorrie for highlighting Coercive Control. Ian Bartholomew is playing the part brilliantly.’
Coronation Street has been highlighting the serious issue of emotional abuse and coercive control through this storyline, as Geoff has gradually taken command of every aspect of his wife’s life.
Bosses have worked closely with abuse charities on the storyline, and are yet to reveal when Yasmeen’s ordeal will end.
