Coronation Street: Fans bid farewell to Michelle Connor as Kym Marsh leaves the soap after 13 YEARS… after fiancé Robert Preston was killed in the Christmas Day gun siege

She announced back in February that she would be leaving the soap.

And Coronation Street fans finally bid a fond farewell to Kym Marsh’s Michelle Connor on Friday, as she left Weatherfield for a fresh start after the death of her ex-fiancé Robert Preston.

After learning that her beloved Bistro had been bought by the sleazy Ray Crosby, Michelle decided she need some time with her family, and left fans distraught as she left the cobbles after 13 years.

Off she goes! Coronation Street fans finally bid a fond farewell to Kym Marsh’s Michelle Connor on Friday, as she left Weatherfield for a fresh start after a string of heartbreak

Michelle had been left devastated earlier in the week when her ex Robert (played by Tristan Gemmill) passed away after being shot in the Christmas Day gun siege.

Despite plotting to frame him for the murder of his lover Vicky Jeffries (Keri Quinn), she was still distraught when he suffered a heart attack and died in hospital.  

Michelle had already been making plans to leave Weatherfield and sold the Bistro to an anonymous buyer, but was left even more distraught when the owner’s new identity was revealed.

Ray had worked with Michelle on a previous project but they parted ways after he made advances on her, and so the bar owner was stunned to see he had to taken over the business she had loved for so many years.

In a fit of rage Michelle proceeded to smash up the bar, but broke down in tears before deciding she needed to leave Weatherfield to go and stay with her family in Ireland.

After saying farewell to son Ryan (Ryan Prescott) and her biological son Ali (James Burrows) , Michelle also said goodbye to her best friend Carla (Alison King) before driving off in the back of a taxi. 

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to actress Kym, who first played Michelle back in 2006.

One wrote: ‘Aww cant believe Michelle has left the cobbes,’ while another added: ‘I’m gonna miss Michelle Connor so much. Kym has been incredible to watch and hope she returns one day. Thank you for 14 years of Michelle Connor Kym #Corrie.’

A third also tweeted: ‘I’m going to miss Michelle who’s Carla going to hang around with now?’ 

A viewer also posted: ‘Say goodbye to Michelle tonight on #corrie @itvcorrie won’t be the same without @msm4rsh.’

Another shared: ‘Can’t believe Michelle has gone, excellent episode @msm4rsh don’t stay away too long.’

Upsetting: Her loved ones came out to see her off, as fans also took to social media to share their sadness at Michelle’s departure

In February Kym announced that she would be taking an indefinite hiatus from Corrie as she felt the time was right to explore other roles.

She told The Sun: ‘When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.

‘It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.’

During her Corrie tenure Kym has been at the centre of some of the soap’s biggest story lines, including heartbreaking scenes in 2017 which saw the tragic stillbirth of her son Ruari.

Michelle has also been at the centre of numerous soap romances, including her marriage to Steve McDonald, which came to a dramatic end when she learned he had fathered a child with Leanne Battersby, just days after her son’s death.
