STEVE BRUCE hopes striker Andy Carroll wins a new contract at Newcastle.
The 30-year-old signed a one-year pay-as-you-play deal when he rejoined as a free agent last summer.
But SunSport understands Carroll can trigger a fresh contract if he plays 20 matches this term.
The Geordie has so far played 11 Premier League games and has made a big impact, even though he has not scored.
Boss Bruce said: “We’d be delighted to tie Andy up. I know there are stipulations in there. I think something triggers it.
“We’ll see how he is. Hopefully, another one triggers in.”
