All The Signs This 'Black Widow' Star Died Before the 'Avengers: Infinity War' Snap

The first trailer for Scarlett Johansson’s solo movie, Black Widow, has gotten fans excited about the start of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With this being the only trailer we have, fans have poured over the clip and come up with some surprising theories about the film. This includes how one character in the movie may have perished prior to the snap in Avengers: Infinity War.

‘Black Widow’ introduces new characters

Black Widow is set prior to the events in Infinity War but after everything that happened in Captain America: Civil War. With that in mind, the trailer confirmed that we will be meeting a slew of new characters as Marvel wraps up Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow’s, storyline.

The new characters include the likes of David Harbour’s RedGuardian, Rachel Weisz’s Melina, and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. Melina andYelena are graduates of the same Russian spy program as Natasha, while RedGuardian is pretty much the Russia equivalent of Captain America (Chris Evans).

While we are very excited to meet these new characters, fans areconvinced that one of them will die in the movie. So which character will meether or his end in Black Widow?

Who died before the ‘Infinity War’ snap?

At one point in the trailer, all four of the heroes are shownsitting in a living room. They are likely discussing how they plan on takingdown the movie’s main villain, Taskmaster, but that is not what drew theattention of fans.

According toWe Got This Covered, a few inquisitive viewers noticed how Yelena iswearing a jacket that is very similar to the one Natasha wore in InfinityWar. If that is correct, then it is possible that Yelena will die in BlackWidow, and that Natasha honors her memory in Infinity War by wearingher jacket.

This would also make her sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame make a little more sense. Natasha would have given her life to save a family after failing to do so in Black Widow.

There is also a good chance that Natasha and Yelena are close toeach other, given their shared history, which gives Marvel an opportunity toexplore a loss that is emotionally difficult for her character.

Will a part of ‘Black Widow’ take place in the future?

We already know that most of the movie will take place in thepast, with a few of the flashbacks exploring Natasha’s early days as a spy. Butthere is some evidence that at least one scene in the film will take place inthe future.

In the trailer, there is a document that is stamped with the dateof January 14th, 2021. Unless this is a mistake, that means one scene willhappen after the snap in Infinity War.

With Endgame set in 2023, this could mean that Natashagoes back and visits her Russian family two years before she sacrifices herselfto save the universe. If that is true, this would be a nice way to tie BlackWidow and Endgame together without getting too convoluted.

It also gives Natasha a way to say goodbye to her family on Earth before traveling to Vormir with Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

What about Taskmaster?

While all of these theories shed a little light on what we canexpect to unfold in Black Widow, there is still a lot of mysterysurrounding the film.

One of the biggest mysteries heading into the film surrounds theidentity of the movie’s main villain, Taskmaster. Marvel has yet to reveal whois playing the character, which has led some fans to theorize that it issomeone already in the credits.

The best candidate for the role of Taskmaster is Melina, who used to be a trainer in the Black Widow spy program. Not only does she have the skills to pull it off, but she also has gained Natasha’s trust.

That said, Marvel could just be withholding the identity ofTaskmaster until we get closer to the release.

Black Widow is scheduled to open in theaters on May 1,2020.
