Billions of stars were captured in the most breathtaking panoramic shot, showing the entire Milky Way galaxy shining above the Dolomites.
Astrophotographer Alberto Ghizzi Panizzi created the awesome image of the galaxy filling the night sky with stars.
The Italian photographer painstakingly pieced 12 images together to create the stunning panoramic shot, that shows the famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo mountains.
Alberto, from Parma, Italy, is an astrophotography and macro photography enthusiast and said he’s ‘amazed by the wonder of nature’.
He said: ‘I had to hike through the night to get to the right position. It was freezing cold but the long walk kept me warm.’
The Milky Way lines up above the Dolomites for only a couple of nights each year, meaning that if the sky had been cloudy, Alberto would have to wait until next year to take the breathtaking shot.
He added: ‘At this time of year the Milky Way is positioned right above the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and really visible too – it’s the best time to capture a picture like this. The picture was taken using 12 vertical separate pictures and then put together again. This is one of my favourite places to photograph. It looks like something from another world.’
