JOSE MOURINHO has taken a sly dig at Manchester United's board for protecting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is in "great situation" at the club despite their poor start to the season.
The Red Devils face table-toppers Liverpool after a run of three games without a win in all competitions and are just one point clear of the relegation zone.
Mourinho was sacked the morning after a 3-1 defeat to the Reds last December, with fans predicting his Norwegian successor to suffer the same fate.
But the Special One believes Solskjaer is lucky for the constant reassurances he receives at Old Trafford, in contrast to the atmosphere under his tenure.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Mourinho said: "They did some good PR in the week to make it absolutely clear or create positive atmosphere for the game.
"I’m going to try and get a job like Ole has, and speak all the time about the future.
"I think it’s a great situation, three-year contract – the future, the young players. I think it’s a great job to do in such a giant club."

Despite Mourinho's claims, Liverpool icon Graeme Souness has stressed that Solsjkaer is in desperate need of results soon.
He said: “Ole is looking down the barrel of a gun. If they get beat up today, they are low on confidence, the calls will get bigger against Ole.
“Who is going to stand up in that dressing room and be main men for Ole? They are short on that.
“It’s about now, and right now they do not have anything like the quality they have had for the last 25-30 years.”
Solskjaer have been handed the boost by the news that David De Gea starts for United after hobbling off the pitch on Monday while playing for Spain.
The former Cardiff City manager has gone for a 3-5-2 formation with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Ashley Young deployed on the wings.
Outcast Fred has been picked to start in the middle of the field alongside Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira with Paul Pogba still injured.
