Teen crushed to death at out-of-control house party

A New Zealand college student fell down the stairs and was trampled to death at an out-of-control house party, according to a report.

Sophia Crestani, 19, was fatally crushed Saturday night at a packed house near the University of Otago when a crowd on a staircase was shoved and collapsed on top of each other, New Zealand news outlet Stuff reported.

“They started to fall backwards and when the people at the top started falling it was kind of like dominoes – everyone went down and the people at the bottom of the stairs just ended up in a pile of people,” a partygoer told the outlet.

Crestani, a second-year student, was found unresponsive at the bottom of the pile.

“I just thought she was unconscious like everyone else,” the witness said.

Several people carried Crestani across the room to emergency responders, who attempted to resuscitate her, according to the outlet.

Crestani, who has a twin sister, was remembered Monday as a “positive” woman with a “warm and friendly nature.”

“She was a cheerful, positive and personable young woman,” said Jayne-Ann Young, principal of Queen Margaret College, where the teen previously was a student.
