Marcus Rashford says new Man Utd team-mate Daniel James is ‘quickest I’ve seen’ and hails ‘calming’ Harry Maguire – The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED signings Dan James and Harry Maguire have added vital extra elements to the squad this summer, according to Marcus Rashford.

While the young winger is as rapid a player as Rashford has seen, the Red Devils' new star centre-back brings great composure to the backline.

Some fans were left disappointed by the club's transfer window, given the fact only three players were signed.

For Rashford, it is a case of quality over quantity given what the newboys bring to the table – especially the amazing athleticism of former Swansea star James.

He told The Times: “Over five, ten yards, Dan James is the quickest I’ve seen.

"It’s a massive strength. You can put everything in front of him.

"Harry brings calmness. Playing with him for England, you feel assured at the back, and for a team that’s massive.”

The comments come after Romelu Lukaku infuriated United bosses by revealing confidential stats after a squad speed test.

Coming out top of the test, the striker was disciplined before his sale to Inter Milan.

And Rashford also found himself on the end of criticism for a social media post over the summer.

Critics felt the England striker's "0.012%" Instagram post, referring to the amount of young sports participants who reach the elite, was boastful.

Rashford disputes this, admitting that he didn't fully explain how the staggering stat humbled him.

The 21-year-old noted: "For me it was just about making people aware of how we can get more young English players playing in the Premier League, which is what we want.

"The problem was how I delivered the post: without context.

“People saw it as gloating because I gave no explanation.

"What I was actually trying to say was that I was extremely proud to be in a minority of players that make it to professional level.

"I was humbled and motivated. I’d never want people to think I take this position for granted.

"I’ve dreamt of doing this my entire life. It’s a lesson learnt.”
