The 51-year-old and his wife Silvia have reportedly been living in separation since January and the divorce was initiated months before the photos of him smooching with a young woman emerged.
Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf say that Van Barneveld's relationship with his wife, who he married in 1995, had been deteriorating for more than a year prior to them deciding to live apart at the end of January.
The five-time world champion exclusively told SunSport last year his marriage to Silvia was in danger because of his constant travelling to tournaments and exhibitions.
And a burglary that took place in their home last summer made things worse between 'Barney' and his wife, who was held at gunpoint during the robbery.
A source quoted by De Telegraaf said in January: "Raymond and Silvia have split up. Of course it wasn't going so well between the two for a year.
"He and his adventures and the blow she received from that robbery did not make the situation any better. It is not expected that it will be okay."
Van Barneveld – who announced that the 2019 season would be the final of his 30-year career – also revealed in December he had lost contact with his estranged son Mike, although he refused to explain why.
'Barney' was pictured sharing kisses with a blonde woman half his age in the Mercure Exeter Southgate in Devon, hours after his defeat in Premier League Darts in March.
He then travelled 45 miles for the UK Darts Open at Butlin’s, in Minehead, the following day, although it is unknown if the blonde was with him.
One guest at the four-star hotel said: "I was in the lobby with my girlfriend and we saw them come out of a lift with their bags to check out.
"I thought she might have been his daughter or something. Then I saw him kiss her. I was stunned.
"There were darts fans in the hotel after watching him in the tournament and Barney was openly kissing a woman who isn’t his wife. He wasn’t behaving like it was secret."
