A Gambian-born teenager was slashed across the face in an unprovoked attack last week.
Photos of Adama Sah’s face show the horrific injuries he suffered when he was ambushed by three thugs in Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury on Tuesday.
Adama’s brother-in-law, 63-year-old Michael Ramsden, said he was "gobsmacked" when he heard of the attack.
Adama, who lives in Italy, was set upon as he walked by a duck pond, reports the ExaminerLive.
Michael said: "Adama has been in the habit of going out for a walk on his own. I had just sat down to my tea when I heard the gate go and I heard my wife, Isa Tou, shout: ‘Oh my God’.
"I wondered what on earth had happened and then she called out for me and I was just absolutely gobsmacked when I saw his face covered in blood.
"I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and immediately dialled 999."
Police have yet to find any suspects.
Michael added: "Adama went to Dewsbury & District Hospital for treatment but the medics then transferred him to Pinderfields Hospital to be seen by a nerve injury specialist.
"Fortunately the consultant doesn’t think any nerve damage has been done.
"Police have yet to formally interview him and he doesn’t speak much English or Italian so it’s not been easy.
"He is distraught and has not been out of the house on his own much since then. He is a very, very quiet lad and he just looked absolutely shocked.
"He said these lads came up behind him and one of them said: ‘Are you all right, mate?’
"Before he could even reply one of them smacked him on the side of the head while another one was swinging at him with a knife.
"He fell to the floor and they kicked him and chased after him when he got up. He’s not a very active lad so he’s not the quickest."
West Yorkshire Police Duty Inspector Darren Brown said yesterday, (Sun): "Enquiries are ongoing and no-one has been arrested. Police are seeking three white males."
