Arsenal and Tottenham in transfer battle for Ajax's ex-Barcelona keeper Onana

The Cameroonian international has impressed for the Dutch giants in the Eredivisie this season after keeping 14 clean sheets in 22 appearances.

The 22-year-old originally came through the Barca academy, after he was spotted in the Samuel Eto'o Foundation, before his switch to Amsterdam.

Onana has been on Arsenal's radar since 2014 but they face a battle with Barcelona who want to replace Jasper Cillessen – ironically, who he took over from at Ajax.

His performances have also caught the attention of Premier League clubs Tottenham and West Ham, but the La Liga giants remain at the front of the queue.

Onana's agent Albert Botines told De Telegraaf: "The reports are correct.  It is no secret that Barcelona are interested in him."

Onana remains under contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena until 2021 but Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly interested in replacing error-prone Hugo Lloris.

Marseille wanted to land Onana in the summer but Ajax refused to cash in on the talent, and are ready to slap a £35.6million price tag on him, with Barca only stretching to £17m.

Onana talked about a potential return  to Spain two years ago, saying: "I would love to come back because La Liga is one of the best leagues in the world.

"We'll see if I return to Barcelona. If I leave Ajax, it'll be to join an even bigger club."
