What did Andrew McCabe say about Donald Trump and how did the US President react?

But what else has he said and how did Donald Trump react? Here's what we know.

What did Andrew McCabe say about Donald Trump?

FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe claimed that Trump said he trusted Vladimir Putin over his own US intelligence regarding North Korean ballistic missiles.

McCabe said an FBI official informed him that Trump was told by Putin that Kim Jong-un’s long-range nukes could not yet reach the US.

And despite being told by American spy agencies that their intelligence suggested North Korea could hit the US, Trump reportedly sided with the Russian President.

“I don't care. I believe Putin,” Trump said, according to McCabe.

McCabe, who was speaking on 60 Minutes, confirmed that he was not present at the meeting, but was told about the exchange by an FBI colleague.

Speaking about the security briefing, McCabe said: "The president launched into several unrelated diatribes.

“One of those was commenting on the recent missile launches by the government of North Korea.

“And, essentially, the president said he did not believe that the North Koreans had the capability to hit us here with ballistic missiles in the United States.

“And he did not believe that because President Putin had told him they did not.

“President Putin had told him that the North Koreans don't actually have those missiles.”

McCabe said US intelligence officials at the briefing tried to tell the President otherwise.

"Intelligence officials in the briefing responded that that was not consistent with any of the intelligence our government possesses," McCabe said.

When asked what he thought of the US President's comments, McCabe said he was shocked.

"It's just an astounding thing to say," McCabe told presenter Scott Pelley.

McCabe also recalled that Trump asked him, “What was it like when your wife lost her race for state senate? It must have been really tough to lose.” McCabe said he replied that it’s “tough to lose anything” and noted his wife had “refocused her efforts on her career.”

“And then he said, ‘Ask her what it was like to lose. It must be tough to be a loser,’” McCabe recalled Trump saying, reported New York Post.

How did the US President react?

The president naturally took to Twitter to express his thoughts on McCabe's claims.

Trump claims the FBI Deputy Director "made up a lie" about McCabe's other claims of Trump verbally attacking his wife to him.
