Jesse Lingard faces rap from cops as Man Utd ace uses phone while driving

The Manchester United star, 26, could receive a £200 fine and six points on his licence for committing the offence as he cruised to Old Trafford.

Lingard was snapped driving his black Bentley Continental ahead of tonight's Premier League clash against Burnley.

And the images revealed that the England international was using his red mobile phone while at the wheel.

He took his eyes off the road as he glanced at the device – which he was holding in his left hand.

The offence offers a maximum penalty fee of £1,000 if the case gets taken to court.

United team-mate Paul Pogba was also caught committing the same offence as he drove to training this time last year.

He was slammed by leading road safety charity BRAKE, but made light of the situation by making a phone gesture to paparazzi later that week.

And Liverpool gave footage to the police of Mohamed Salah using his phone while driving last year.

The Egyptian striker was caught on camera texting as he sat at the wheel of his car.

Penalties for using phone while driving

  • You can get six penalty points and a £200 fine if you use a hand-held phone while driving
  • You'll also lose your licence if you passed your driving test the last two years
  • You can get three penalty points if you don't have a full view of the road and traffic ahead or proper control of the vehicle
  • You can also be taken to court where you can be banned from driving and maximum fine of £1,000

But the small fine would not dent Lingard's evergrowing bank balance, with the star pocketing £100,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

He has been a huge hit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this season, with five goals and two assists.

The English star even pulled out an amazing moonwalk celebration after he scored against Arsenal on Friday.

Lingard is expected to start against the Clarets tonight as United look to make it nine wins on the bounce.
