For the first time in three weeks there was a change in the top four in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The committee, as expected Tuesday, kept unbeatens Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame in the first three spots as the rankings have held since Nov. 7.
The big adjustment this week is the fall of Michigan from the fourth spot after the Wolverines were defeated by Ohio State.
Georgia was the beneficiary for now as it moved to No. 4. There's one problem for the Bulldogs. They have to play Alabama in the SEC title game, putting them in a must-win situation Saturday.
If, as expected, Georgia loses the door is open for either No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 6 Ohio State.
The Sooners will meet No. 14 Texas in the Big 12 championship game. It's an opportunity for them to avenge their lone loss on the season. The Buckeyes meet No. 21 Northwestern in the Big Ten championship game.
Whichever team makes the best final case Saturday could be the one that gets the nod in the final rankings if the scenario holds.
