Christmas is all about tradition, but the Kardashians might be cancelling one of theirs. For years, the Kardashian clan has posed for an annual Christmas card, but this year, the photo shoot might not be happening, at least according to Kim.
Why the Kardashian Christmas card might be canceled
Last week, a fan on Twitter speculated that family tension might mean that we wouldn’t see an annual Christmas card. “I feel like with all the drama that happened this year, we might not get a Kardashian Christmas card,” he wrote.
Kim Kardashian seemed to confirm the fan’s theory that the card was canceled, tweeting back: “Wow reading my mind.”
The Kardashians have added three new babies to their growing extended family this year – Chicago (daughter of Kim and Kanye), Stormi (daughter or Kylie and Travis Scott), and True (daughter of Khloe and Tristan Thompson). While fans would like to see all those little ones dressed up for the holidays, family drama means we might not be so lucky.
For one, Kim and Kourtney got in a huge fight last year over scheduling the Christmas photo shoot, as seen on the season premiere of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kim even told her older sister: “No one wants you in the f—–g shoot” and said she was “the least exciting to look at.”
The drama surrounding the Tristan Thompson cheating scandal could also be putting the shoot in jeopardy, US Weekly speculated. Yet another theory is that Kanye wants to do his own Christmas card just with Kim and the kids.

The Kardashian family Christmas photo shoot is a tradition that predates their reality TV fame. The family’s been sending out the cards for decades, as seen in this roundup from W Magazine. A 1995 card features a baby Kylie and no Kendall (who wasn’t yet born) as well as several of Caitlyn Jenner’s kids. Other Christmas photo shoots saw the family posing in leather jackets with a motorcycle and casually hanging out on the beach in matching white T-shirts and jeans ensembles.
Kris Jenner and the rest of the Kardashian family always put a lot of effort into their cards, but things definitely got slicker as their fame increased. In 2010, they rocked a glam, Addams Family-esque look, while the 2013 card was a carnival-inspired shoot with famed photographer David LaChapelle. 2011’s card was in 3D. The exception was 2009, when the family went with a random photo from Khloe’s wedding to Lamar Odom that also happened to include Ryan Seacrest.
Given the way that the Kardashian family has grown in the past year, it’s no wonder that organizing the annual photo shoot has gotten more difficult. But despite Kim’s suggestion that the card isn’t happening, momager Kris says otherwise. In August, she told James Corden she was organizing a shoot for the 2018 card. The cards typically aren’t revealed until sometime in December, so we’ll just have to wait to see if 2018 will be the year without a Kardashian Christmas card.
