Aaron, played by Ross Marquand, shockingly forfeited his limb when it was pinned by large log in a ghastly accident.
The builder was one of a group of workers alongside Rick (Andrew Lincoln) trying to restore a bridge when a heard of walkers attacked them.
In the flurry, Jed (Rhys Coiro) dropped the bone-crushing piece of lumber onto Aaron's arm as he tried to run from the zombies.
Reacting to his grave injury, medic-in-training Enid (Katelyn Nacon) made the decision to sever Aaron's arm below the elbow in order to save the rest of the limb and his life.
The stomach-churning scene left many hiding behind their hands and commenting on Aaron's horrid injury.
A fan posted: "That crushed arm from the log though damn, walking dead."
"I feel bad for Aaron right now… Omg!" another shared.
As another loyal viewer hilariously mused: "The Walking Dead tonight — when Rick said that Aaron was going to be "all right" after losing his left arm — has to be a nod to Arrested Development. Right?"
While one fan appeared to echo many viewer's sentiments: "The walking dead is going to give me a heart attack!!"
It's not the first time a series regular has lost a limb on the zombie drama, which airs in the UK on Now TV, with the late Scott Wilson's character, Hershel, losing a leg in season three.
In the comic book series, Rick is the one who loses his hand and showrunner Angela Kang explained why they decided Aaron would be the one to suffer his fate instead.
Speaking about the frightful turn of events, she told The Hollywood Reporter: "We decided on this story point of Aaron losing his arm before I noticed how much he looks like comic book Rick.
"That part of it was just a crazy accident!"
Season 9 of The Walking Dead returned to screens on October 8 and was shown first in the US, on October 7.
