Minnesota’s injured senior running back Shannon Brooks was arrested at 1:30 Sunday morning after officers responded to a report of a domestic abuse in progress.
Sgt. Darcy Horn of the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed that Brooks was taken into custody for misdemeanor domestic assault and was booked at Hennepin County Jail.
The University of Minnesota has not yet issued a statement about the arrest. According to the Associated Press, head coach P.J. Fleck said he's not able to comment on the arrest.
Weeam Suliman, Brooks’ girlfriend, said on Twitter that “the altercation had nothing to do with me or any other female. The event occurred between two male roommates.”
She added: “Although this is a setback, it does not define who Shannon is.”
Brooks has rushed for 1,728 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career, but a leg injury has kept him out of action this season. He is being red-shirted and expected to return in 2019.
The Brooks arrest, in the 600 block of 15th Avenue SE in Minneapolis, according to the police report, came about 10 hours after Minnesota lost 30-14 to Ohio State in Columbus.
