BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker has hit back at anyone who’s got the hump with his new mug.
It all kicked off when Walker shared a video of his new drinking vessel on Twitter with the caption: “We have new mugs people.”
Some of his followers, however, weren’t best pleased and questioned if BBC licence fees were paying for said mugs.
One wrote: “Did my license fee pay for those ?” Another shared: “It’s great when the licence payers are paying for it all isn’t it?”
“From my licence fee…and your ridiculous salary Mr walker…#shameful. If you did a proper job and saved lives etc then justified,” a third wrote.
In response to one comment, Dan explained: “1. It’s a mug 2. It’s LICENCE 3. They cost about £1.50 each 4. That’s a grand total of £3 for the 2 we use every day 5. Did I mention it’s a mug? 6. I hope you’re not doing anything ‘frivolous’ like drinking tea today 7. Thanks for watching.”
The Muggate scandal comes after Walker ruled out joining Strictly Come Dancing – after accidentally “100%” confirming it.
“Now then… the rumours are not true,” he wrote.”I am 100% doing @bbcstrictly this year. Too busy with life, @BBCBreakfast, Football Focus & a new quiz on @BBCOne starting next month called #ChaseTheCase.”
“Ooops! NOT DOING. Quite an important word to miss out. I shall be watching from the safety of the sofa #No,” he then tweeted.
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
