Manchester City beat Arsenal and Wolves to signing of 14-year-old Darko Gyabi from Millwall for £300,000

Darko Gyabi, an England youth player, has moved to the Etihad from Millwall in a deal worth around £300,000, with add-ons reaching over £1million dependant on success.

City beat Arsenal and Wolves to the signing of the South London lad who was playing two years above his age last season in Millwall’s U16s.

Gyabi, from Catford, is a box-to-box central midfielder whose flair and skill caught the attention of the Premier League champions.

He has been compared to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba in style, and City are hoping for the same kind of success.

Gyabi is the latest teenager from South London to move to the Etihad campus, as City’s recruitment has shown a clear trend of targeting youngsters in the capital.

Gyabi follows Taylor Richards, Ben Knight, Ian Carlo Poveda and Sancho, who left the club for Borussia Dortmund last season and made his full England debut last night.

Sancho, four years older than Gyabi, comes from the same estate as the youngster.

He also signed for City from Watford at the age of 14 in a deal worth £66,000 and left three years later for £8million having never played a first-team game.

Sancho was selected by Gareth Southgate for his Three Lions squad due to the winger excelling in the Bundesliga with five goals and seven assists this season.
