Yob teens punch and kick ambulance while crew desperately try to treat patient inside

A GROUP of yobs punched and kicked an ambulance while paramedics inside were desperately trying to treat a patient.

Medics were responding to a 999 call in the south of Staffordshire when the group became disorderly last night.

As their rampage showed no signs of slowing down, Staffordshire police scrambled to the scene.

But by the time officers arrived, the group had fled on foot.

Horrified, Mark Hayes, Operations Manager at West Midlands Ambulance Service, was left completely shocked by the incident.

He said on Twitter: "Words fail me.

#NORESPECT

"One of my crews responded to 999 call & whilst assessing the patient on the vehicle a group of teenagers thought it was ok to start kicking & punching the ambulance.

"Quick response from Staffordshire Police but group ran off, thankfully crew & vehicle ok."

Paramedic Peter Bowles replied to his tweet slamming the incident as "despicable behaviour".

But he said it wasn't the only incident which took place yesterday.

Other West Midlands paramedics were "physically and verbally assaulted" while on call.

Mr Bowles said the attacker was arrested by West Midlands Police.

Twitter users expressed their shock, with one commenting: "I don’t know how society has became like this to think it’s acceptable to assault emergency staff…"

Another simply added: "Absolutely disgusting!"
