The success of James Cameron's 1997 film about the "unsinkable" ship has given rise projects to build a replica, including Titanic II.
When will Titanic II be finished?
The idea is the brainchild of Australian businessman and politician Clive Palmer who announced the £385 million project in 2012.
Palmer founded the Blue Star Line – in homage to the original ship’s owners the White Star Line and work was mean to be finished in 2016 with the first cruise planned from Dubai this year.
But work was stopped in 2015 when one of Palmer’s companies became embroiled on a financial dispute with a Chinese business.
He has said the ship will now be complete in 2022, exactly 110 years after the original RMS Titanic was launched in Belfast.
What will be its maiden route?
Palmer has recently announced the plan is for the maiden voyage from to be from Singapore to Dubai.
That will be followed by a voyage from Dubai to Southampton, which is intended to the ship’s home port, Cruise Arabia reported.
There will then be to have her journey between the UK and New York during the winter months, just as White Star Line intended for RMS Titanic.
The ship will also undertake round the world voyages “attracting unrivaled attention, intrigue and mystery in every port she visits," said Palmer in a statement.
To avoid a repeat disaster, Titanic II will apparently be outfitted with plenty of life boats.
The ship will have a welded, not riveted hull, as well modern navigation and radar equipment.
Though ship will also be diesel rather than coal powered, the four iconic smoke stacks will remain.
Blue Star Line says the nine-decked ship will be home to 835 cabins, set to accommodate 2,435
passengers.
Just like the original there will first, second-and third-class tickets for sale.
Where is it being built?
An initial agreement was signed with the CSC Jinling shipyard in China to build the Titanic 2.
It is, however, unclear when work will begin or whether it will still be built at the Chinese yard.
In 2016 it was reported the Finnish company contracted to design the vessel had ceased work on the project.
What is being built in China is a full scale replica of the Titanic in Sichuan province.
The ship will be permanently moored in a reservoir in the landlocked area of south-west China.
