Ukrainians protest as gas price dispute leaves houses freezing

People block roads as at least six towns remain without heating at a time when temperatures fall below freezing point.

    Hundreds of Ukrainians took to the streets, protesting a sharp increase in gas price by the national gas company.

    A dispute over gas prices has left more than a million people without supply, leaving them without heating.

    Gas prices have been increased by 23 percent in Ukraine. Supply to those who couldn’t pay was cut off. As a result, at least six towns – with a combined population of more than a million – have to do without heating.
