Tiny parking space in Cornwall has sold for £55,000 despite drivers having to scramble out through passenger DOOR

The covered 14ft by 6ft space is in St Ives, Cornwall — popular with wealthy holidaymakers for its beaches, restaurants and Tate art gallery. It was being offered separately to a nearby £695,000 three-bedroom cottage.

But a buyer for both has been found within weeks.

Parking spots in the town – popular with wealthy holidaymakers for its beaches, restaurants and Tate art gallery – are at a premium, with one space going up for auction for £40,000 last year.

The space is between others and tricky to access.

The agents’ brochure says: “Access is through a remote-controlled electronic door. When the car is parked in its boundaries against the wall, the driver will not be able to open their door.”

Two years ago 80 per cent of St Ives residents voted to ban the selling of new builds as second homes, instead reserving them for people intending to live there full time.

A local resident, who wished not to be named, said: "It's absolutely ridiculous that someone would spend that much money on a parking space, especially if you can't get out."
