He’s got a well-deserved reputation as a bare-knuckled political fighter who takes on all comers, but Gov. Cuomo is afraid of… eels.
The sea creatures are just too slimy for the governor — an expert in slime after all those years in Albany.
“We fish with eels a lot. He will not touch eels. He will not put them on the hook,” Chris Cuomo, the governor’s younger brother, disclosed Monday on his new SiriusXM radio show.
Cuomo, who made a guest appearance on the show, confirmed that account.
“I don’t like snakes. An eel is very close to a snake,” the two-term Democrat said.
He dismissed eels as “slimy, unnatural.”
“When it is in your hand and you squeeze it… it’s still wriggling out of your hand,” the governor said.
The comments proved irresistible to Republican challenger Marc Molinaro, who’s trying to line up as many debates as he can before the Nov. 6 election.
“I’ll make Andrew Cuomo a proposition: agree to five, live one-on-one TV debates, and I won’t bring live eels to them. Any fewer and all bets are off,” Molinaro said.
