SOCIAL care in parts of England is facing a “total collapse” without more funding, a report warns.
Vulnerable adults face losing out on a care home bed or support to continue living in their own home.
Age UK said there was a “perfect storm” of limited cash, a high turnover of staff and patients needing increasingly complex care.
The charity wants Chancellor Sajid Javid to pledge a significant sum to local authorities in his spending review next week.
The worst-hit local authority has lost 58 per cent of its nursing home beds in the past two years.
And almost a third of areas have seen home care providers cease trading, the Age UK report said.
Spending on social care by local authorities, the NHS and the elderly themselves was £21.7billion in 2017-18 — but this was a real terms £500million cut since 2010-11, Age UK said.
The charity’s Caroline Abrahams said: “Demand is going up but funding and supply are going down.
There are genuine worries that next year we could see a total system collapse in some areas.”
