NEWCASTLE cops have launched a probe after human remains were found in woodland.
Detectives rushed to suburb Walker, east of the city centre, after receiving a call about the find on Thursday evening.
It's believed parts of a skeleton were discovered beside a stable.
Officers have described the death as "unexplained".
However, police have maintained a presence at the scene since the alarming discovery at 7pm on September 2, Chronicle Live reports.
A large stretch of the woods has been taped off.
Meanwhile, marked cars are parked up nearby while investigations continue.
Northumbria Police says the process of identifying the person has started.
It's understood the death is not being treated as suspicious.
An official said: “At about 7pm on Thursday, we received a report that adult human remains had been found in a wooded area in Fossway, Walker.
“We are currently in the process of identifying the individual and at this stage are treating their death as unexplained.
“Officers remain at the scene at this time.”
