Scrooge council mocked for tiny Christmas tree as residents joke they could ‘only afford half a tree’ – The Sun

A SCROOGE council has been blasted by locals after it put up a tiny Christmas tree.

The pitiful pine was unveiled as part of £25,000 of taxpayers cash spent on its yuletide display.

The tree looked like it was missing the top part it was so small – leaving it resembling a bush.

It led to an angry backlash from residents in Gosport, Hants.

Horrified Mike Lyons took a snap of it and jokingly wrote on Facebook: “Gosport could only afford half a tree this year.”

Keith Savill added: “Gosport went all out with their Christmas tree this year.”

Deb Hamilton said: “Hope they only paid half the price!!”

Denise Bishop, joked: “Council cut backs half a bush.”

'HALF A BUSH'

Steve Mew quipped: “Where’s the rest of it?”

Whilst Martin Clack added: “What f**k is that.”

Emma Light fumed: “Seriously though wtf is that it, looks bloody awful!”

Tina Dawn added: “That's a horrible looking tree.” Natalie Byer said: “That's pitiful.”

It was a stark contrast to last year’s fully grown Christmas tree in the same location.

Civic bosses have now replaced the Christmas "bush" following the blunder in an embarrassing u-turn.

Local Trevor Lant posted a snap of the new one and added: “They tried again.”

Last year, the council spent £31,000 on Christmas festivities.

Gosport Borough Council declined to comment.
