Schoolboy, 14, who died after being found unconscious in playground is named

A schoolboy who died after being found unconscious in the playground has been pictured for the first time.

The 14-year-old, named locally as Bradley John, died yesterday afternoon.

Bradley was not breathing when he was found by other pupils at St John Lloyd Roman Catholic Comprehensive School in Llanelli, South Wales.

Teachers gave first aid until and ambulance, there rapid response vehicles and six police cars arrived at the scene.

Staff and pupils broke down in tears at a special assembly two hours later when the headmaster announced that Bradley had died.

Police have confirmed the boy’s death is not being treated as suspicious, but a cause of death has not been confirmed.

Unconfirmed comments on Facebook claim the teenager was bullied at school.

A heartbroken relative posted on Facebook: "My little Brad, a little boy with an absolute heart of gold who we all loved unconditionally.

"I hope you’re at peace now away from those horrible bullies. We love you endlessly and always will my little angel."

Another Facebook tribute from family friend Rhian Jones said: "Bradley was such a sweet, kind hearted boy with a huge love for horses. Life and people can so so cruel sometimes."

The school called parents of more than 20 tearful children who saw what happened for them to be immediately taken home.

One father who lives close to the school said: "Children and parents were in tears when they were collected.

"For the pupils there at the time it must have been a shock."

Pensioner Aeres Lewis, 87, who lives close to the school, said: "I could hear lots of sirens and I looked over towards the school.

"I knew something was wrong because all the children were out in the playground at 2pm and that’s very unusual.

"It’s terribly sad, it’s a very good school – my grandson went there."

Bradley’s father Byron John has a small farm five miles from the school at Ammanford where the children had their own horses.

Bradley’s stepmother Kate Pickard, a leading horsewoman, is creating a memory box for him with a lock of his hair and his handprints.

Friends described Bradley as a keen huntsman who loved to blow a hunting horn.

Teachers and children at the school are being offered counselling to help them come to terms with the tragedy.

Rob Evans, independent councillor for the Dafen Ward of Carmarthenshire Council, said: "It’s a tragedy – my thoughts are with the pupils and teachers who were with him.

"My sincere and deepest thoughts also go to the family – it’s beyond belief."

A Dyfed-Powys spokeswoman said the investigation is continuing.

A police statement said: " We were called to St John Lloyd Catholic Comprehensive School in Llanelli after concerns were raised for the wellbeing of a pupil.

"Tragically, we can confirm that the child has passed away in hospital.

"His family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and there is no need for other parents to be concerned for the welfare of their children.

"Our thoughts are with the family and the school at this sad time.

"The school is working with the local authority, the diocese and Dyfed-Powys Police in order to ensure pupils and staff are supported."
