Rose West psychologist reveals exactly how to spot a potential serial killer – from obsession with porn to a tragic past

ROSE West’s forensic psychologist has revealed the tell-tale signs common to most serial killers.

Dr Glenn Wilson, who was a court witness in the trial of the serial killer, said mass murder is often linked to pornography and warped sexual fantasies developed during their teens.

Speaking to the Star Online, Dr Glenn Wilson said explained the science behind spotting serial killers such as the Yorkshire ripper and Rose and Fred West.

He said: “Serial killers are often sexual deviants where their crime is a sexual fantasy which they are trying to act out.

“It’s been incubated for many years, in their teens perhaps, fantasy connected with masturbation usually and maybe topped up with pornography, and sometimes, these individuals may feel the need to act these out in reality, whereas most people are capable of containing these fantasies.”

Dr Wilson said: “These (reasons) are seldom a total explanation in themselves but they may contribute to the loss of control.”

Revealing how convictions are secured, he said it was all about making serial killers, who often grew up in abusive childhoods, talk.

He said: “They (forensic psychologists) might be able to help by framing the questions for interrogation in a way that would be most constructive.

“The general instruction is not to deter the suspect from talking, but in fact to encourage them.”

The goal is to “get them talking enough you might trap them into contradicting themselves”.

Dr Wilson added: “There’s a tendency for people who follow Criminal Minds and Cracker and other such TV programs to see the role of a psychological profiler as a very intuitive person, an almost mystical process.

“But the actual truth is a bit more prosaic and it's about what the crime scene may tell you about the perpetrator — how they might travel and how they might make their escape, that sort of thing.

“It sounds boring to the average punter but it’s much more useful to the police.”

Yesterday it emerged that prisoners have been told to “be nice” to Rose West over fears she will be bullied at a new jail.

The House of Horrors monster, 65, has been moved from top security prison Low Newton in Co Durham to New Hall in West Yorkshire.

West – who got life in 1995 for her part in 10 murders – will be offered yoga and Zumba classes at the new prison.

She is the only woman murderer serving life without parole in the UK following the murders – including that of her daughter.

Her husband Fred, 53, buried some bodies in their garden in Gloucester.

He hanged himself in jail while awaiting trial for 12 murders.
