Plane evacuated after ‘wheel catches fire’ as it lands at airport

Passengers were forced to evacuate a plane using emergency slides after one of its wheels caught fire as it approached for landing.

The incident took place at a runway at Düsseldorf Airport, Germany, just after midday.

The Pegasus Airlines plane had been carrying 163 passengers from Istanbul in Turkey to the western German city, according to DW.

There have been no reported injuries.

Video from social media shows how the yellow inflatable slides were employed for terrified passengers to slide sown.

Airport ground crew noticed one of its wheels was on fire , according to airport authorities, and radioed ahead to warn the crew.

The pilot of the Airbus A320 had ordered the passengers to use the slides during the emergency proceedure.

It is not yet known what caused the fire but it was revealed that the fire had extinguished itself before it could be reached by fire crews.

It is the second recent incident involving the Turkish budget airline after a plane skidded off a runway in Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport, killing three people.
