Pilot seriously injured in plane crash after aircraft plunges to ground

A man has been seriously injured in a light aircraft crash in Warwickshire.

The pilot suffered serious injuries to his arms, legs and head when the aircraft plunged to the ground in the village of Baxterley, near Atherstone.

The microlight plane came down at roughly 6.40pm crashing into a fence and flipping over.

Two fire engines from Atherstone Fire Station were sent to the scene and found the pilot trapped within the microlight aircraft.

Firefighters released the casualty using clan lukas cutting equipment and small gear.

He has been taken to hospital by air ambulance, said Warwickshire Pollice.

No one else was in the aircraft and there is thought to be no other injuries. It is not known what hospital the injured man was flown to.

In a statement Warwickshire Police said: “A light aircraft has come down in a field in Baxterley near Atherstone. The aircraft, which was carrying one man, came down in Charity Farm.

"The man suffered serious injuries to his arms, legs and head. He has been taken to hospital by air ambulance.”
