All eyes are on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry this month after they dropped a pregnancy announcement at the start of a 16-day royal tour.
Kensington Palace revealed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were expecting their first child together on Monday, October 15 – less than five months after the couple married in a fairytale wedding at Windsor Castle.
They announced the baby is due in "spring 2019" but, as people have pointed out, that’s a pretty long season.
Speculation of the month of the royal baby’s birth may be over after royal watchers spotted what they think is a clue on Meghan’s hand.
The Duchess, 37, was supporting husband Prince Harry at an Invictus Games event in Australia earlier this week, looking elegant in a white jacket over her black shirt.
As ever, she wore beautiful jewellery to finish off the look – and eyes were drawn towards the rings on her right hand.
Meghan wore three stacked rings, each with a gemstone, which have led to people speculating it had a special meaning to do with the baby’s birth.
As Meghan’s birthday is in August and Harry’s is in September, some thought the green and blue gems at the top and bottom of the stack were their birthstones of green peridot and blue sapphire.
The gem sandwiched in the middle band looks to be diamond, which is the birthstone of the month of April.
The rings are from Ecksand, a Canadian jewellery designer Meghan has worn at other events, and each ring is sold separately so the customer can pick and choose whatever gemstone they want – and stack them whatever way they want.
On the jeweller’s website, the ring with a round emerald stone is on sale for $1990, while the marquise cut sapphire and diamond rings are available for $933 and $980 respectively.
One fan took to Twitter , under the name @DuchyofSuccess, saying: "Im (sic) hoping Meghan’s stacked rings represent their birthstones and Baby Sussex is an April baby.
"Meghan’s birthstone-green peridot. Baby Sussex birthstone – diamond. Harry’s birthstone – blue sapphire."
Could Megan’s rings be a nice little way to mark their baby’s arrival next year? It’s possible as they have been chosen out of any number of gemstones.
But it’s equally likely she wore the rings because she liked them – or because her stylist picked them out for her.
Even so, it hasn’t stopped people rushing to place bets on an April arrival of Baby Sussex today.
Bookmakers have even slashed the odds of Harry and Meghan’s baby being born in April, following a string of bets since this morning.
