Sion Richard Griffiths, 20, from Anglesey was jailed for 17 years for the deplorable acts

A sick abuser with a fetish for wearing nappies has been jailed for 17 years for raping a child.

Sion Richard Griffiths, 20, from Anglesey would dress up as a baby, put a dummy in his mouth and then sexually abuse the child, prosecutor Gemma Gordon told Caernarfon Crown Court.

The abuse was reported to police and when arrested a mobile phone was examined and photographs of Griffiths, wearing a nappy were found.

He admitted to police he had a fetish for wearing such items.

Griffiths, of Glas y Dorlan, Nebo, near Amlwch had denied rape and engaging in sexual activity with the minor but was found guilty following a trial last month.

His co-accused Ffion Glynwen Jones, 27, of Maes Salem, Amlwch was jailed for 10 years after she was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity.

Ms Gordon said the abuse came to light in May this year when the child told a friend what Griffiths had been doing.

Text messages from Jones were found threatening to tell police what Griffiths was doing.

In reply Griffiths said: ‘Fine, ruin me,’ the court was told.

Jailing the pair, Judge Huw Rees said their ‘warped behaviour’ amounted to the serious sexual abuse of a child.

Judge Huw Rees added it was too soon to make a proper assessment of the impact of the offences on the child.

‘But is is clear harm is likely to manifest itself at some point.

Sion ap Mihangel, defending Griffiths, said it was accepted the ‘morally abhorrent offences’ would attract significant terms of imprisonment.

He said the references handed into court showed a very different side to his character.

Both Griffiths and Jones were made subject of indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and their details will be held on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Richard Edwards, for Jones, said she planned to spend her time in prison constructively and better herself educationally in readiness for her return to the community.

He added members of her family were in court and she continued to have their support.

Jones was close to tears as the judge announced the sentences but Griffiths showed no emotion.

Speaking after the case, an NSPCC Cymru/Wales spokeman said: ‘Griffiths and Jones committed deplorable and repeated acts of sexual abuse against a defenceless child for their own gratification.

‘The lengthy jail sentences imposed reflect the grave nature of their crimes and will ensure that they cannot target other children.

‘It is important that they receive effective treatment behind bars to reduce any risk they pose on their release while the survivor of their appalling abuse must now be given all necessary support to recover and carry on with their life.’
